Why Crete Completely Won Me Over✨

I’ve just come back from Crete and honestly… I already want to go back.

This island has completely stolen a little piece of my heart. From gorgeous little Greek villages, amazing food, luxury hotels, beautiful beaches and family friendly resorts, it really does have something for everyone.

I stayed in Koulfataari, which is such a lovely little hidden gem. It had that authentic Greek feel that I absolutely love. Little winding streets, traditional taverns, friendly locals and just a really relaxed atmosphere. If you want somewhere that feels properly Greek rather than overly commercialised, this area is perfect.

One place I have to mention is Nikos the Fisherman. Honestly… wow. We ate here 3 times in 4 days because it was THAT good. Fresh seafood, gorgeous Greek dishes, amazing service and one of those places where you just sit for hours enjoying the atmosphere. A huge recommendation from me if you visit the area.

The best thing is you’re also only a short walk from Hersonissos which has loads going on for families, couples and groups. There are loads of bars, restaurants, shops and activities, but it still keeps that lovely holiday vibe without feeling too chaotic.

While I was there I visited Star Beach Village & Water Park and this is an AMAZING option for families. It’s right on the beach, has a fantastic waterpark, loads for children to do and just feels like one of those easy, stress free family holidays where everyone is entertained. I can see why families return year after year.

But the hotel that completely had my heart was AKASHA Beach Hotel & Spa. I am genuinely obsessed with this hotel. It has such a luxury boutique vibe without feeling pretentious. The design is stunning, the pool scene is gorgeous, the spa is beautiful and the beach club directly across from the hotel just gives it that extra wow factor. Sitting there looking out over the sea felt like pure luxury.

The staff were incredible too, which always makes such a difference, and the food and drinks were genuinely some of the best I’ve had at a hotel. It’s one of those places you walk into and instantly feel relaxed. I already know I’ll be back.

Crete itself is such a good option for families as well. The transfer times around these resorts are relatively short which is a huge bonus when travelling with children, especially younger ones. The weather is gorgeous, the beaches are beautiful and there’s so much to explore.

Hiring a car is also super cheap and such a good idea if you want to see more of the island. There are so many little villages, beaches and hidden spots to discover. Plus there are loads of excursions you can do too. Boat trips, waterparks, historical sites, jeep safaris… and you can even visit Santorini for the day which is such a bucket list experience.

Crete really surprised me in the best way possible. It has luxury, authentic Greece, family fun, gorgeous food and stunning scenery all in one place.

I genuinely cannot wait to return 🤍
