𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐎𝐫𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐖𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐊𝐢𝐝𝐬 | 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝, 𝐅𝐮𝐧, 𝐁𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐬 & 𝐀 𝐒𝐮𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐭 𝐅𝐚𝐢𝐥 😂

New Orleans was one of those places I wasn’t completely sure what to expect from… and it ended up being so much more fun with kids than I imagined! 🇺🇸⚜️

It’s loud, colourful, quirky, a little bit bonkers and completely unlike anywhere else we’ve been.

The best way I can describe it? A weird but brilliant mix of New York, Vegas and Orlando. 😂

You’ve got the buzz and craziness of New York, the slightly wild anything goes feel of Vegas, but then loads of attractions, things to do and family fun that gave me little Orlando vibes too.

And the FOOD. 🤤

Honestly, you could go to New Orleans purely to eat.

Seafood, Cajun food, Creole food, huge portions, gorgeous restaurants, po’boys, gumbo, jambalaya… and obviously you absolutely cannot go to New Orleans without trying a beignet at Café du Monde.

Powdered sugar everywhere is basically part of the experience. 😂

🏨 Where we stayed

We stayed at the Sheraton New Orleans on Canal Street and it was lovely.

The location worked really well for us and we upgraded to have Club Lounge access, which I’d definitely recommend.

Having food and drinks available in the lounge was brilliant, especially travelling with kids when sometimes nobody can agree what they want to eat or you simply cannot face finding another restaurant. 😂

🚢 You NEED to do a boat trip

One of my favourite things to do in New Orleans is get out onto the Mississippi.

We did a sunset boat trip and I’d 100% recommend adding one into your itinerary.

However…

Learn from my mistake. 😂

If you’re specifically booking a sunset sailing, FIND OUT WHICH SIDE OF THE BOAT THE SUNSET WILL BE ON.

Get yourself into position early.

Otherwise you may excitedly book a sunset cruise and then realise you’re basically sitting on the wrong side of the boat watching everyone else enjoy the sunset. 🤦‍♀️😂

Still a brilliant trip though!

🐱 And yes… we went to a cat lounge

This was such a random little addition to the trip and the kids loved it.

We spent time at a cat lounge, which was exactly as cute and chaotic as you’d imagine. 😂

If your children are animal lovers, it’s definitely something a bit different to add in.

I’ll be doing separate content on this too because it deserves its own little moment. 🐾

👧🏼 Is New Orleans actually good for kids?

YES!

This surprised me.

There is so much for children to do and you definitely don’t need to write New Orleans off as somewhere that’s only about Bourbon Street and nightlife.

We explored the French Quarter, rode the streetcars, visited City Park, did Storyland, explored the colourful streets, went pottery painting, visited the cat lounge, took a Mississippi boat trip and generally just wandered around taking everything in.

There’s constantly something interesting to look at.

The music, the buildings, the balconies, the street performers, the history… even just walking around feels like part of the experience.

And despite travelling there with kids, I actually left thinking…

I really want to come back WITHOUT them. 😂

Not because I didn’t enjoy it with them. I absolutely did.

But New Orleans after dark looks like a completely different holiday.

Live music, bars, jazz clubs, amazing restaurants and that famous New Orleans nightlife.

I feel like I’ve experienced one side of the city now and I definitely need to go back and experience the other!

✨ Would I recommend New Orleans?

Absolutely.

Especially if you like holidays that feel a little bit different.

New Orleans has personality.

It’s not polished and perfect. It’s colourful, chaotic, historic, musical, slightly crazy and completely unique.

And that’s exactly what makes it brilliant.

I’d happily go back. Next time with a strategically selected sunset seat and approximately 47 more beignets. 😂
